There's something about Porsche. It has something for everyone, from the beautiful classic 911 from the 1960s to the all new 918 Spyder E-Hybrid.
It attracts people who love tinkering with old cars, want to invest their pensions, love driving, embrace technology, the rich, the poor, the young and the old.
I love the old classic 911 just as much as the new. The body shapes are different but distinctly 911. There's a 911ish quality to them that I just can't put into words. Is it the shape of the headlights, the curve of the body or just the hint of excitement that comes from driving one?
I went to two Porsche events recently. One was "Classics at the Castle" at Heddingham Castle in Essex, England and the other was at the Festival of Porsche at the Brands Hatch racetrack in Kent, England. These two events epitomise what Porsche is about - one was full of classic cars (1948 to 1973) with men in flat caps looking at engines and eating burgers and the other had the new 918 Spyder E-Hybrid and 919 LMP1 LeMans cars racing around the circuit at full pelt.
The underlying principle is to always get the most out of everything. From day one, we have strived to translate performance into speed - and success - in the most intelligent way possible. It's no longer all about horsepower, but more ideas per horsepower. This principle originates on the race track and is embodied in every single one of our cars. We call it "Intelligent Performance" - porsche.com
I don't own a Porsche yet but I had the pleasure of sitting in a couple of different models at the Festival of Porsche. I tried out the Panamera S E-Hybrid model and the Carrera 2S Martini edition - both entirely different and both equally stunning. I'd love to own an old 911, rebuilt by the renowned Magnus Walker in LA. I can just see myself zipping around the alpine roads of Europe in one with a massive grin on my face.
In the beginning, I looked around and could not find the car I'd been dreaming of: a small, lightweight sports car that uses energy efficiently. So I decided to build it myself -Ferry Porsche
Porsche is always looking to the future and their E-Mobiity program works to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions through the technology in the cars. Porsche recognise this has to happen to help save our environment and they are making it happen - right now. An E-Hybrid Porsche only uses about a quarter of the energy of a combustion engine and they have rolled this technology out in their 918 Spyder, Panamera and Cayenne models. Ruthless German efficiency meets beautiful and evocative design - the best of both worlds!
Hopefully, you'll find me behind the wheel of that old 911 on an alpine hairpin in the not too distant future. I think I'd like a red one, or maybe blue...
