A single red rose leans up a pristine white cross, on the lush green grass with bright blue skies overhead. The headstone reads James R Farris, Texas 1944.
There are 3811 war heroes buried here. Laid to rest in this peaceful place after meeting such a violent end. The memorial fittingly states ' GRANT UNTO THEM O LORD ETERNAL REST'.
On the Wall of the Missing, 5127 names are carved into the stone. 5127 souls, lost forever but not forgotten. Running fingers over the names, the stone feels cold in the hot June sun.
Sadness is mixed with respect for this place. The pristine graves, neatly mowed lawns, the quiet - it is a lovely place to rest a soul.
